Four Wolverines claimed first-place honors at EMU Invitational Saturday in Ypsilanti.

Sophomore thrower Erin Pendleton set a new career-best in the 20-pound weight throw event. Her toss of 17.74 meters was enough for the title. When Freshman Taylor Pogue crossed the finish line after a 5:01 mile, she recorded her first career win. Pogue finished seven seconds in front of her closest competition.

Junior hurdler Julian Purvis won the 60-meter race in the team’s first meet of the indoor season. Freshman Erin Busbee, participating in her first collegiate event, was victorious in the long jump with a 5.86 meter leap.

Although the event was non-scoring, the team will look to build on the early success when it hosts Ohio State in “The Dual” this Saturday.

The event will be an early test of the team’s mettle to see if improvements have been made since last season’s disappointing 8th place finish at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
