The Michigan softball team announced on Twitter Thursday morning that its weekend series against Michigan State will be postponed due to COVID-19-related concerns.

The team has not made public the specifics of the decision, however the team spokesperson made the situation somewhat clearer in an email to The Daily:

“We had to postpone our weekend series with MSU due to COVID in our program.”

It is unknown whether that means an active case or contact tracing or whether it is connected to a player, coach or other team staff member.

The game is currently listed as postponed, not canceled, something also confirmed by the team. Michigan and the Big Ten plan to make up these games, but with jam-packed weekends of four games each from now until the end of the season and stringent COVID-19 protocols, it seems somewhat difficult to accomplish.

The Wolverines haven’t played an official game at Alumni Field since May 20, 2019, and now, their reunion with their home stadium will have to wait at least a little bit longer.
