The Michigan men’s basketball team’s roster reconstruction continues.

On Sunday, Michigan coach Dusty May picked up a third transfer for the Wolverines in Auburn guard Tre Donaldson. The news was first reported by Joe Tipton of On3Sports.

Donaldson spent two years at Auburn, and made a considerable jump from his freshman to sophomore year with the Tigers. After averaging 2.5 points and 10.5 minutes of action in his inaugural season, he doubled his scoring, tallying 6.7 points per game while seeing the floor for 19.2 minutes. Not only did Donaldson become a role player for Auburn, but he even found a place into the starting lineup. Of the 35 games he played in last season, he started 10 of them.

The 6-foot-3 guard will be a welcome addition for a Michigan team who is trying to rebuild its backcourt. When former-Michigan guard Dug McDaniel transferred to Kansas State, the Wolverines were left with a hole to fill. Although Donaldson alone cannot fill that void, he can help. Donaldson is the second guard that May has snagged from the transfer portal, committing to Michigan two days after former-North Texas guard Rubin Jones announced his commitment.

At one point, the Wolverines had just four scholarship spots filled after a whirlwind of players ran out of eligibility or entered the transfer portal. Although Michigan’s roster is still a work in progress, it’s definitely progressing. Donaldson marks the third transfer commitment under May’s leadership, and signals that the roster reconstruction is well underway.
