With graduate netminders Jake Barczewski and Andrew Albano out of eligibility and senior Noah West in the transfer portal, the Michigan hockey team was down all three of its goalies.

But moments after West announced his transfer to play his fifth year of eligibility at Ferris State, Bulldog netminder Logan Stein announced via Instagram his commitment to the Wolverines.

Currently a senior at Ferris State, Stein has been a Bulldog for his entire undergraduate career. Over his four years, he has averaged a save percentage of .892, and has an overall 15-46-5 record.

Prior to his college career, Stein played in the USHL for the Waterloo Black Hawks, playing 47 games with a .902 average save percentage.

With West and Stein trading places on their respective rosters and Barczewski — Michigan’s starter this past season — out of eligibility, the Wolverines now have a veteran goaltender on their roster. However, with his record as a Bulldog and lack of experience in the Big Ten and in high-pressure situations, Stein will likely fill the same role that West held on the roster this season as a backup netminder.

With Cameron Korpi and Stephen Peck both incoming freshman goaltenders for Michigan, Stein’s role on the roster will likely be minimal. Korpi has spent the past two years in the USHL playing for the Tri-City Storm, and Peck has served as netminder for both the Bismark Bobcats and the Muskegon Lumberjacks this season.

With Korpi and Peck likely leading from the net, Stein will serve as an experienced college goaltender who can take on the position in the crease when necessary.
