Newly hired Michigan defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated. First reported by Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News, the incident occurred just before 3 a.m. on Saturday.

“Greg made an unfortunate mistake and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated,” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore said in a statement. “He made no excuses and has taken accountability for his actions. The football program and athletic department have suspended Greg indefinitely while we review details of the incident.”

Scruggs was officially hired by the Wolverines on March 6 after holding the same position at Wisconsin for one year. He previously coached in the NFL and at Cincinnati before that.

This is not Scruggs’ first offense. In 2011 during his senior season playing football at Louisville, he was arrested for a DUI charge and dismissed from the team.

With the Wolverines set to begin practice this Monday, Scruggs’ suspension puts his future with the team in question.
