The University of Michigan Hillel building, a Jewish campus life organization, has been targeted by two incidents of antisemitic graffiti within the past two days. Tuesday night, benches outside the Hillel building were vandalized, displaying a Star of David, an equals sign and a Nazi swastika. The day before, a similar drawing was found on a flier on a telephone pole outside the building.

Hillel shared information on the incident on its Instagram page. In their post, they said these acts will not deter them from their mission of providing a Jewish community space on campus.

“These actions are a symptom of the campus climate, one in which anti-Israel and antisemitic threats and disruptions are increasing,” Hillel wrote. “Our Hillel community is strong and we will not be afraid as we continue to celebrate Jewish life and create meaningful engagement with Israel. Now more than ever, the Administration must make clear that antisemitism will not be tolerated at the University of Michigan.”

According to their statement, Hillel has launched an investigation alongside the University, and is reviewing security footage to identify the perpetrators.
