Raiders of the Lost BCS: In the highly anticipated matchup between Texas and Texas Tech, the Red Raiders had a chance to continue rising in the BCS rankings. But Texas Tech fell behind early and never recovered from a game-changing punt block. Facing a fourth-and-five on the Texas 35-yard line, the Raiders decided to punt, but an errant snap allowed the Longhorns to block the punt. Texas dominated the game behind another solid outing by Vince Young, who threw for 239 yards and two scores. The Longhorns’ defense held the vaunted Red Raiders’ offense well below its season average of 54 points per game.
Volunteers seeing Crimson: After 10 years of heartache, Alabama finally defeated Tennessee. Tied at three late in the fourth quarter, the Volunteers’ Arian Foster dove for the end zone, but the ball popped out and rolled out the back of the end zone, giving Alabama the ball. On the ensuing drive, Alabama’s Brodie Croyle connected on a 43-yard bomb to set up the game-winning field goal. After kicking the game-winner last week, Jamie Christensen knocked in a 31-yarder for the Alabama win.
