Michigan graduate Kate MacKenzie was named U.S. Rowing’s 2002 Female Athlete of the Year. Mackenzie helped the women’s eight win the gold medal at the 2002 FISA World Rowing Championships in Seville, Spain, in September.

Mackenzie earned her first varsity letter for Michigan back in 1997 when she raced inMichigan’s first arsity boat as a junior. During her senior season in 1998, the Michigan rowing team had their most successful season in history to that point, finishing fifth at the NCAA Rowing Championships.

Mackenzie also won a gold medal and two silver medals at the 2002 USRowing National Championships in Cherry Hill, N.J.

The former Michigan graduate currently trains at USRowing’s Princeton Training Center under coach Tom Terhaar.
