A University Department of Public Safety officer has been placed on unpaid leave after being arrested in Ypsilanti for cocaine possession, according to AnnArbor.com.
DPS spokeswoman Diane Brown confirmed in an interview yesterday that an officer was placed on unpaid administrative leave on Jan. 14, 2010, pending further investigation.
Brown could not comment further on the specific case due to the ongoing investigation, but said DPS policy typically places University officers on leave when faced with possible criminal charges.
Lieutenant Monica Yesh, who heads the Livingston and Washtenaw Narcotics Enforcement Team, told AnnArbor.com that the arrest was made by both Ypsilanti police as well as LAWNET officers.
Brown said if any University officer is convicted of a crime, he or she is typically terminated.
Yesh told AnnArbor.com no charges have been filed yet, but an investigation is still under way.
