At 2:35 this morning a University student’s purse was stolen from her as she was walking home.

The victim informed the Ann Arbor Police that an unknown man approached her as she was walking near Oakland Avenue and South Forest Avenue.

The suspect, who did not appear to be armed, was described as a black male wearing dark clothing.

Ann Arbor Police Sgt. Richard Kinsey said the suspect approached the victim as she was heading home.

“She was going into her house and the guy came up and snatched her purse,” he said.

After grabbing her purse, the man jumped into a dark-colored SUV and fled the scene.

Ann Arbor Police have no suspects at this time and the incident is still under investigation.

The Department of Public Safety issued a crime alert shortly after the incident, asking anyone with information to call (734) 763-1131.

In the crime alert, DPS reminded students to be aware of their surroundings, walk with a friend whenever possible and to have their keys in hand before they reach their vehicle or residence.

The alert also reminded students to look for a blue light emergency phone located around campus if the student ever feels threatened or in danger.
