1 In honor of the upcoming Olympic games in Beijing, nearly 3,500 Chinese children have been named “Olympics,” The Associated Press reported. In addition, more than 4,000 children are named for one of the games’ five mascots, whose names translate into “Beijing welcomes you!”

2 Michigan hockey forward and team captain Kevin Porter leads the nation in goals scored. He has eight goals after this weekend’s series against the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

3 The Department of Public Works in Bristol, Conn. will randomly search the contents of trash bins to ensure that recyclable materials are not being thrown away by citizens, the Bristol Press reported. Throwing out recyclables could lead to fines.
