1 – Comedian Stephen Colbert’s campaign for president was cut short yesterday when the executive council of the South Carolina chapter of the Democratic Party rejected his request to be placed on the ballot. He also failed to file paperwork or pay fees needed to run as a Republican in the state.
2 – In the first game of the John Beilein era, the Michigan men’s basketball team defeated Ferris State 78-40 in its exhibition game last night at Crisler Arena. Freshman guard Manny Harris lead Michigan with 15 points.
3- Former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre was hired yesterday as the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He signed a 3-year, $13 million contract, worth nearly twice as much as the contract signed by his Yankees replacement, former Florida Marlins coach Joe Girardi.
