“Big things have small beginnings,” whispers a blond Michael Fassbender at the end of the new, full-length “Prometheus” promo.
20th Century Fox
Going back to the beginning of the explosion of a trailer, this sci-fi action flick seems to have it all: a stellar cast (including Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace and the aforementioned toothy dreamboat), a pulse-escalating Streitenfeld score, astonishing production value and the easily identifiable director’s touch of Ridley Scott.
Scott has noted that “Prometheus” is not directly attached to his iconic “Alien,” though it does take place in the same universe.
The film is set in 2085 and follows a spaceship crew as they investigate an advanced alien civilization they believe holds the answer to the origins of humanity.
The trailer contains just enough to excite without giving away too much. The quick cuts between chilling images layered with the dramatic score make it nearly impossible to breathe during the two-and-a-half-minute saga. Even if the actual film ends up only half as grandiose as the trailer, it will still be a gripping, nail-biting thriller.
