The Michigan basketball team has had a number of stretches
during the Big Ten season when points seemed hard to come by. A
16-point lead vanished against Purdue on Saturday when the
Wolverines failed to make a field goal for almost 11 minutes. Here
are a few of the other breakdowns through eight games of the
conference schedule.
at Michigan State, Jan. 19 – Nine-plus minutes, no field
goals
Score before stretch: Michigan leads 19-15
Drought: Nine-plus minutes without a field goal. It
included 11 missed shots, 8 turnovers.
Result: Michigan State rolled to a 71-54 win. Michigan hung
around after the lapse of offense but never recovered from the
23-point first half. The Spartans kept control throughout for the
win.
at Wisconsin, Jan. 21 – Five minutes without scoring
Score before stretch: Michigan leads 43-39
Drought: It was part of a larger 20-5 run.
Result: The Badgers won their 23rd straight at the Kohl Center,
74-63. The Wolverines were unable to come back from the 16-point
lead that Wisconsin built during the run.
vs. Iowa, Jan. 28 – Six minutes without scoring
Score before stretch: Michigan leads 31-20
Drought: Iowa went on a 15-0 run to snatch the lead from the
Wolverines
Result: Michigan held on to win 90-84 at home, similar to the
escape against Purdue. Lester Abram led the Wolverines with 24
points.
