A seven-run fourth inning was difficult to bear for most Purdue fans at Ray Fisher Stadium. But it was even more difficult for the Boilermakers themselves to handle. Purdue couldn’t regain their momentum after a Michigan spark and lost 9-4 to the Wolverines in the three-game series finale on Sunday at the Ray Fisher Stadium of the Wilpon Complex.

With the win over the Boilermakers, Michigan has won its first two Big Ten series this season — against Indiana and Purdue. It’s the first time since 2008 when the Wolverines ousted Iowa and Penn State.

Leading Michigan was junior outfielder Ryan LaMarre. LaMarre finished with three RBI and went 2-for-4 at the plate. He cranked a triple and then a double when the bases were loaded — igniting a seven-run scoring rampage in the bottom of the fourth.

Sophomore pitcher Brandon Sinnery had a productive afternoon at the mound. Sinnery pitched six innings and allowed just two runs and six hits.

Michigan will next face Toledo on Tuesday.
