Each week, the Daily hockey “professors” will
analyze four aspects of the weekend’s action — offense,
defense, special teams and goaltending — and give the team
grades and comments.
Prof. Michael Nisson
Offense 101: B+
You can’t expect the Michigan offense to run up the score
on the second-ranked defense in the CCHA. The Wolverines did launch
65 combined shots and had a total of 7 assists on the four
goals.
Prof. Brian Schick
Defense 210: B-
The defense looked suspect on Friday, allowing the Spartans 35
shots. It also suffered a few breakdowns that led to goals.
Saturday was much better.
Prof. Gennaro FILICE
Sp. Teams 357: B
Although the powerplay created some quality chances, it
couldn’t convert and finished 0-7 on the weekend. The penalty
kill’s dominance brings the grade up.
Prof. Sharad Mattu
Goaltending 185: B-
Will Gold-medalist Al Montoya ever stay in the crease? Sure,
he’s a skilled puck handler, but he’s just too risky.
But his performance on Saturday was a great showing.
