Each week, the Daily hockey “professors” will
analyze four aspects of the weekend’s action — offense,
defense, special teams and goaltending — and give the team
grades and comments.

Prof. Michael Nisson

Offense 101: B-

The Wolverines had ample chances on both days, but had
difficulty lighting the lamp. The 41 shots that they ripped at
Notre Dame goalie Dan Brown on Saturday keeps the mark out of the C
range.

Prof. Brian Schick

Defense 210: B+

The scores may not reflect a solid effort, but the defense
allowed just 16 shots on Saturday, and single-digit shot totals in
five of the weekend’s six periods.

Prof. Gennaro Filice

Sp. Teams 357: C-

Notre Dame’s penalty kill dominated, as the Wolverines
could muster just one powerplay goal in 11 opportunities. Michigan
also gave up three powerplay goals.

Prof. Sharad Mattu

Goaltending 185: C

It was hardly Al Montoya’s finest week, and his hamstring
injury added to the despair. Backup Noah Ruden was in a spot
against a hungry Irish team.
