Each week, the Daily hockey “professors” will
analyze four aspects of the weekend’s action — offense,
defense, special teams and goaltending — and give the team
grades and comments.
Prof. Michael Nisson
Offense 101: A+
The Wolverines lit up the CCHA’s second-ranked defensive
unit with 12 goals in two games. Michigan took a little while to
get going in each contest, but once the offense started up it
didn’t stop.
Prof. Brian Schick
Defense 210: B
Michigan was able to clamp down on Friday, limiting Miami to one
goal. Saturday was not so hot, with a whopping 40 shots on
Montoya.
Prof. Gennaro Filice
Sp. Teams 357: A-
While 7-for-9 on the penalty kill is pretty good, 4-for-11 on
the powerplay is stupendous. Michigan also tallied a 4-on-4 goal.
Special teams really set the pace this weekend.
Prof. Sharad Mattu
Goaltending 185: B-
Gold-medalist Al Montoya was terrific Friday when he needed to
be, and fortunately he didn’t need to be great Saturday. He
faced a tough, talented team this weekend.
