Last week, sophomore to-be Stephany Skrba tried out for the Canadian women’s Senior National Basketball Team.
Representing Michigan in fine form, Skrba made the team and will compete nationally beginning today in an exhibition warm up against Brazil.
Last season, Skrba played on the Canadian Junior National Team that finished ninth in the FIBA Under-19 World Championships in Tunisia.
She averaged 7.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in that tournament.
Following the exhibition series against Brazil, the team will tour Europe in preparation for the 2006 Women’s World Championship in Brazil, which will be held from September 12-23.
Michigan was also represented on the women’s Canadian Junior National Team by incoming freshman Krista Philips.
Philips participated in the FIBA Americas Under-18 World Championship Qualification Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She averaged 5.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in her second season with the team, and won a silver medal in the process.
