The No. 13 Michigan women’s cross country team finished first among Division I schools and second overall at the Michigan Intercollegiate Friday in Rochester. Grand Valley State, which is ranked third in Division II, won the event.
Michigan rested most of its top runners, giving many of the younger athletes an opportunity to compete. Michigan sophomores Jennie Biewald (14:40), Rachel Severin (14:45) and Alysha Valencia (14:51) swept the top three positions in the 4000-meter event.
Michigan’s top runners will return next Saturday for the NCAA Pre-Nationals, where they look to bounce back from a disappointing fourth-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational Sept. 28.
