The Michigan women’s track team gained momentum this past weekend, competing at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind. The event, though non-scoring, proved to be the perfect opportunity for several Wolverines to focus on improvement before this weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships.
Although the majority of the selections for NCAAs will be made Monday, the distance medley relay has already qualified for the competition, held on the campus of Texas A&M.
Also qualifying for nationals were sophomores Rebecca Addison and Jillian Smith, competing in the 800-meter run.
Leading the small Michigan contingent at the meet was senior Danielle Tauro who clocked in the 12th-fastest national mile time at 4:38.77. Freshman Taylor Pogue also ran the mile, finishing behind Tauro with a time of 5:00.11.
Also representing the Wolverines at the meet was sophomore Erin Pendleton who participated in the weight throw. She finished fourth in the event with a hurl of 18.08 meters. The toss was short of her best this season of 18.93 meters which places her 41st in the country.
