Sophomore Jillian Smith recorded the NCAA’s fastest time in the 1,500-meter run at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic in Florida on Saturday afternoon.

In just her third outdoor appearance of her Michigan career, Smith led sophomore Rebecca Addison and senior Danielle Tauro to top-four finishes with a time of 4:14.65.

The Wolverines’ only other win came from redshirt sophomore Mary Grace Pellegrini in the 3,000-meter run. Pellegrini was the only runner to finish the race in under 10 minutes, clocking in at 9:52.03.

Senior Emily Pendleton — who is redshirting the outdoor season — won the discus while competing independent of the Wolverines. This weekend marked her debut appearance in an outdoor meet this year.

After five weeks on the road, Michigan will stay in-state next weekend to compete at Eastern Michigan, but a group of throwers will travel to Columbus for Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday.
