On Friday, the No. 9 Michigan women’s gymnastics team had a golden opportunity to add another win to its record in a meet against No. 3 Alabama at Crisler Arena. Despite an overall solid showing by the Wolverines with season-best performances in a number of events, the team lost the meet by less than a point.

Michigan (4-1 Big Ten, 10-5) can look to its performance on the uneven bars as the only blemish to an otherwise stellar showing against the Crimson Tide on Senior Night. A fall during the second routine and overall problems with re-grasp releases and extra swings earned the Wolverines two uncharacteristic sub-9.200 scores.

For Michigan’s seniors, it was a final chance to compete in front of the Crisler Arena crowd and they did not disappoint. Kylee Botterman extended her all-around title streak to nine straight weeks with a 9.900 on her floor exercise to tie Alabama’s Kayla Hoffman’s total score. Fellow seniors Jordan Sexton and Trish Wilson also captured individual awards in the beam and bar events respectively.

The Wolverines jump right back into action on Saturday as they travel to University of Georgia to compete against their second-straight SEC foe.
