After reading The Statement Wednesday, I’ve got to say that it doesn’t seem right for a public university to employ its students as telemarketer fundraisers (About Campus: Taking abuse at Telefund, 11/18/2008). When the economy is bad, the University should take that as a cue to re-evaluate its priorities and realize that the University is a part of the state and its economy and subject to the same budget restrictions as everyone else. When times are tough, the University’s first concern should be the welfare of its students and the quality of its education, not raising millions of dollars to add VIP seating to the Big House.

Having solicited funds for charity, I would like to express solidarity with the students working at Telefund. But can I pre-emptively ask Telefund to remove me from its call list?
