Regarding Andy Reid’s SportsMonday column, the University’s ‘C-Ya’ chant for ice hockey isn’t just “racy” (I shouldn’t have been kicked out of Yost Ice Arena this weekend, 11/08/2009). It’s profane.
Yet it’s political correctness — on stilts and steroids — that hears a public recitation of “…chump, dick, wuss, douchebag, asshole, prick, cheater, bitch, whore, slut, cocksucker” as a chant that singles out gay practitioners of fellatio for ridicule. Nobody puts the “tic” in political correctness quite like Ann Arbor.
This news flash just in, Andy: If you’re dressed in a chicken suit, occupying the aisle next to the glass and bellowing into a megaphone, you aren’t “participating in the ‘C-Ya’ chant.” You’re leading it, “dude.”
Why slam the Athletic Department for doing nothing “for the last 15 years,” when “nothing” is exactly what you wanted them to do? Just a tad disingenuous, don’t you think, to then pivot to a critique of the Athletic Department for doing something — ejecting the highly visible and vocal cheerleader — just because that galloping knot-head was you?
Should’ve tasered you until your pop-up timer activated. (Fortunately, I keep my feathers numbered for just such an emergency. — Foghorn Leghorn)
