The year has started, unfortunately, with devastating news from the Middle East. The situation there is critical and Gaza is on the verge of a humanitarian crisis. The death toll has exceeded 700, and Israel still intends on continuing its vicious, inhuman attacks.

I am grateful that the Daily has already taken note of the conflict and posted stories in the first issue of the semester. I hope, however, that the Daily will take further notice of this dire situation and increase awareness about the issue on campus. Ideally, the crisis in Gaza should be the highlight of the front page. Images of the conflict would add to the emotional appeal of the report.

There are tens, even hundreds of children who are dying in Gaza, and I think they deserve a little help from us. Awareness on campus would help attract the required aid.
