In couldn’t-see-that-coming news, CNN reports that Roy Horn, the dark-haired half of German illusionist duo Siegfried and Roy, was mauled Friday night by one of his famous white tigers during a show at the Mirage casino on Las Vegas’ strip.
At the time of deadline, Horn was still listed in critical but stable condition after sustaining massive blood loss and undergoing emergency surgery.
Montecore, a seven-year old white tiger lunged at Horn’s neck and dragged the entertainer from the stage in the middle of a performance. Members of the backstage crew used a fire extinguisher to drive the feral, albino beast away from Horn.
Many in attendance that night assumed that the attack was part of the show. Siegfried Fischbacher expressed confidence that his partner would pull through.
Oh, and if that wasn’t bad enough, it was also Roy’s 59th birthday Friday.
