Students bolstered incumbent Democrats’ victories yesterday, with 80 percent of campus-area voters backing Gov. Jennifer Granholm and 78 percent behind Sen. Debbie Stabenow. But students bucked the statewide trend on Proposal 2, the measure to ban race-based affirmative action programs. More than three-quarters of votes at campus precincts were against the proposal, while 58 percent of state voters supported it as of 4 a.m. with 95 percent of precincts reporting. Students were not as unified on Proposal 5, which received a 57-percent “yes” vote around campus.
