It turns out, Al Montoya has more than two choices on where to
spend his future. If the National Hockey League thinks a labor
dispute will stop the Michigan stand-out from going pro, then it
wasn’t paying close attention to the World Hockey Association
draft at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara, Ontario.
What could be called a glorified fantasy draft, yielded four
Wolverine picks (three current Michigan players and former
Wolverine Danny Richmond) in Sunday’s rookie draft while
eight former Blue Icers were pegged during the free agent draft.
Some players were selected by teams that don’t even have
names yet. The WHA is an attempt to revive the 1970s league that
briefly challenged the NHL for ratings. Here’s a look at how
