COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) – Incoming University of Missouri president Elson Floyd urged yesterday the state “invest mightily” in higher education, even as details emerged indicating his contract could be worth more than $2 million over five years.

Floyd, the departing president of Western Michigan University, visited all four campuses, voicing pleasure at each stop about assuming leadership of a “world-class university.”

He also inherits a state funding crunch that sliced $44 million from the university system’s budget this year.
