Despite outshooting Central Michigan 12-7, the Michigan field hockey team fell 1-0 to the Chippewas yesterday in Mount Pleasant. The game proved to be a close match, as both teams remained scoreless at the half.
The Wolverines (2-3 Big Ten, 7-12 overall) had five penalty corners throughout the game but couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities. On the other hand, owning advantage in front of the Michigan cage, Central Michigan forward Pam Seufert collected a rebound off of a penalty corner and scored the lone goal for the Chippewas (2-6 Mid-American Conference, 5-12) with just 15 minutes left in the game.
Despite the loss, the Wolverines still lead the all-time series with the Chippewas 28-15-2.
Michigan will close out the regular season with a crucial home game against No. 18 Indiana (3-2, 10-5) on Saturday. The Wolverines could earn a tie for second place in the final Big Ten standings with a win over the Hoosiers and an Ohio State loss to Northwestern.
