University Police issued a security bulletin today informing students, staff and faculty of a recent spree of thefts from vehicles on North Campus.

According to the bulletin, four theft reports were filed for incidents that occurred last night in lot NW51. In all of the incidents the side windows of the vehicles were smashed and small electronic devices and Global Positioning systems — which had been left in view — were stolen.

A possible suspect is described as a 5 feet, 8 inch tall, light-skinned male. He had short hair or is possibly bald and was seen wearing a dark coat and dark pants. He left the area in a dark-colored compact car and is thought to be between 25 and 30 years of age and has a “stocky build” according to the bulletin.

University Police are advising people who park their cars in the area to practice certain safety precautions like locking all vehicle doors before leaving a vehicle and keeping valuables in the vehicle out of view.

Individuals with any information on the thefts are encouraged to call the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigations Unit at (734) 764-8559.
