Students were not the only ones who stayed home during Ann Arbor elections yesterday – voter turnout nearly halved from 21,000 in 2003 to 12,000 this year in an off-year election that gave Democrats all 10 City Council seats. Democrat Stephen Rapundalo’s Ward 2 victory was the most encouraging; he is experienced with city politics, and his outreach to students suggests that he will push to make student issues a priority on City Council.
