Indian restaurants are familiar to Ann Arbor, with at least five in walking distance of campus. But in the battle to be the best, only one can reign supreme: This year, the lone Main Street fixture took the crown.

While the walk to Main Street from campus may deter some from trying Shalimar, the food will not be a let down. The setting of downtown Ann Arbor adds an extra bit of sophistication that other locales don’t provide. Shalimar’s Murgh Tikka Masala, a chicken dish with creamy curry sauce, is delectable when eaten with naan or over rice (or both), while vegetarians can feast over the Malayee Kofta, vegetable balls in creamy sauce, or Matar Paneer, cheese cubes cooked in a spicy sauce.

If your taste buds can handle it, order your food with at least medium spices and revel in the rich Indian flavors. Though Shalimar is one of the more expensive Indian restaurants around campus, you truly get what you pay for.
