A group of men stopped the armed robbery of a student walking toward the West Hall Arch early Friday morning, according to a University Police crime alert.

While walking towards the arch, the student was reportedly approached by an unknown man, who twice attempted to take the student’s wallet. After the failed attempts, the suspect threatened to shoot the student, but police say no weapon was seen.

According to the report, the suspect next punched the student in the face before a group of men pulled the suspect away from the student, who fled the scene.

The suspect is described by witnesses as a black male, mid-20s, 6′ slim build, wearing a gray long-sleeved baggy jacket, dark-colored cargo-style pants and a gray beanie cap.

This is the third alert this year regarding crime at the West Hall Arch. Police say they increased patrols in the area following an armed robbery in late July, and will continue to monitor activity.
