Need to scratch that hot-blooded, revolver-toting itch “Django Unchained” left you with? The “Call of Juarez: Gunslinger” trailer dropped last week to slake your thirst. Opening with shots of the Wild West distorted by heat and a growling guitar, it promises authentic-feeling vigilante justice in the least forgiving era of American expansion.

The gravel-throated narrator muses philosophically on freedom and justice, and what exactly they mean in a society where getting shot in the face over a bottle of whiskey is commonplace. The 89-second cinematic shows beautifully animated gunplay and environments, with “300”-style blood splattering across the screen with every shot fired.

Great Western figures John Wesley Hardin, Billy the Kid and Jesse James make cameos before a series of first-person jump-cuts puts iron sights front and center. The trailer is torturously short, just long enough to drag viewers headlong into the lawless West and its bootlegging, saloon-going, horse-riding, train-robbing culture before fading to black. “Call of Juarez: Gunslinger” is slated to release later this year on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
