University of Michigan alumni DeAndree Watson, Central Student Government president from 2011 to 2012, was found dead in his car on Sunday morning on the 37400 Block of Willow Lane in Westland, Mich.

In the fourth installment of a four-part series on police brutality protests across metro Detroit, The Michigan Daily reporters went to 11 different protests, driving 269 miles and speaking to almost 100 people in 10 cities about why they came out.

While some said it was their first time protesting. Many more said they were used to protests in big cities, but they never expected protests of this magnitude — or even protests in general — in their suburban hometowns.

Saturday afternoon, hundreds of community members gathered at the University of Michigan Diag and marched through Ann Arbor in protest of recent incidents of police brutality against Black Americans that shook the nation.

U-M DPSS reported an assault in the Nichols Arboretum at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

At about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a felonious assault took place at the Nichols Arboretum near the Peony Gardens, according to the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security. 

A robbery was reported at the Subway on State Street Saturday evening.

At about 8:20 p.m. on April 3, a robbery took place at a Subway restaurant at 902 S. State St. near Packard close to the University of Michigan, according to the Division of Public Safety and Security. 

Despite a nearly empty campus, AAPD and DPSS say it's unlikely the crime rate will increase.

The University of Michigan is mostly vacant now that the majority of students have gone home due to the push from University Housing to leave campus.
