Midway through my time studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, I jumped at the chance to attend Afrikaburn, a Burning Man regional festival in the South African desert. Afrikaburn is a temporary society erected in the desert at the end of each April, where nothing is for sale and everyone is encouraged to give something: donating time to a camp that makes breakfast, creating temporary art structures, volunteering at a first aid tent. For my gift, I took portraits with my film camera.
