The 2021 Big Ten men’s basketball tournament has been relocated to Indianapolis, the conference announced on Tuesday. The tournament was originally slated to take place in Chicago.
The tournament will occur over the days of March 10-14, with games being played at Lucas Oil Stadium.
In a press release, the conference cited “the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, officials and conference constituents” when explaining the relocation.
The women’s basketball tournament is also slated for Indianapolis — with games being played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse from March 9-13.
“Hosting both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments in the same city allows for cohesive testing and medical protocols and both events, as well as centralized accommodations surrounding the competition venues,” the conference wrote in its statement.
Last month, the NCAA announced that the NCAA Tournament will be held entirely in Indiana, spread out in arenas throughout the state. The Elite Eight and Final Four are both scheduled to take place at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Last season’s Big Ten Tournament was held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse before being truncated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
