Editor’s note: This is an updated version of the initial article on the Michigan softball team’s COVID-19 related game postponement.

Last Thursday, The Michigan softball team announced on Twitter that its weekend series against Michigan State will be postponed due to COVID-19-related concerns.

Today, less than a week later, Michigan announced via Twitter that the four game series has been rescheduled with a home-and-home series against Michigan State.

The team did not make public the specifics of the postponement, however the team spokesperson made the postponement somewhat clearer in an email to The Daily last Thursday:

“We had to postpone our weekend series with MSU due to COVID in our program,” the spokesperson said after the initial delay.

It is unknown whether it meant an active case or contact tracing or whether it was connected to a player, coach or other team staff member.

The first game of the series will be played at Alumni Field on Wednesday, April 14 at 5:00 p.m. The second game will be played at MSU on Wednesday, May 12 at 5:00 p.m.

The Wolverines haven’t played an official game at Alumni Field since May 20, 2019, and will play their long-awaited home opener next Wednesday.
