After a global pandemic obliterated the end of senior year, a friend’s mom reached out to me about a midsummer spring break to Beaver Island. This magical place has a vast range of ecosystems within it’s 55 square miles. Together we found a break from the panic at a place that contains 551 people and has such a small amount of light pollution that the northern lights can be gazed upon almost any part of the island. Reminiscent of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,we spent our week exploring various paths and places and found ourselves at peace with the craziness that once immersed us just days before. As all hope seemed to be lost, Beaver Island became the Luke Skywalker to my Princess Leia.
