A suspect in a fatal hit-and-run last October turned himself in to the Ann Arbor Police Department in the city’s 15th District Court.
According to a press release from the AAPD, Ypsilanti resident Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed is suspected of striking the victim 26-year-old Michael Curley, a resident of Pittsfield Township with his vehicle and fleeing the scene. Curley was struck while riding his bicycle. AAPD officers investigated the incident for months, and before obtaining a warrant for Mohamed’s arrest.
Mohamed faces two charges — failure to stop at the scene of the accident resulting in death when at fault, and failure to stop at the scene resulting in serious impairment of death — that could amount to 15 years in prison or fines of $10,000. According to the court’s case records, he pled no contest to both charges. Mohamed’s bond is set at $15,000, and he is due in court for a preliminary examination on Feb. 4.
Detective Lieutenant Robert Pfannes said the court immediately arraigned Mohamed upon his arrival.
“It’s been a very long investigation,” Pfannes said. “Now we’re just waiting for the court date.”
