On Friday, students who applied to the University early action began recieving their admissions decisions.
Following concern from adminstrators over a trend of overenrollment, the 2015 entering undergraduate class was the smallest in several years at 6,071 students, a drop of 434 from 2014. 13,555 students were offered admission in 2015, lowering the admissions rate from 32.2 percent to 26.2 percent. The number of applications to the University has increased every year since 2006, with 51,753 prospective students applying in total for the 2015 entering class. Enrollment and demographic data for the 2016 entering class will be released later next year.
Several measures — such as deferring more individuals who apply early action and waitlisting more applicants in the regular decision cycle— were instituted beginning with the 2015 class to avoid exceeding target enrollment numbers.
