With Thanksgiving leftovers dwindling and winter parties starting to full swing, students are trying to make use of extra food. A new public Facebook group, #UMLeftovers, is working to combat food waste by encouraging students to post pictures of leftover food on social media with the hashtag #UMLeftovers.

The Facebook group was created at the end of October and has reached more than 250 members. According to the page administrator, the group began in the class Entrepreneurship 550: Interpersonal Skills, taught by lecturer Eric Fretz.

The page encourages users to post photos of leftover, public food, as well as locations and times where the food can be found by students and faculty. Flyers have also been seen around campus encouraging students to post public food information to be shared with the community.
