A gas leak was reported close to North Quad Residence Hall at around 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 26. The residential and academic areas of the building were evacuated. Multiple roads surrounding the leak were also closed. The cause of the leak is unknown at this time.

As of 5:44 p.m., DTE Energy identified the location of the leak and allowed people back in, according to the Division of Public Safety and Security's twitter. The area should still be avoided.

At 6:10 p.m. DPSS issued a statement that the leak has been resolved, the building has been reoccupied and normal traffic flow has resumed within the surrounding streets.

At the time of the initial notice of the leak, DPSS Chief of Police Melissa Overton explained DTE was managing the leak as well as potentially determining its cause.

“We are currently waiting on DTE heavy crew that actually has to break the ground,” Overton said. “They are probably an hour out, depends on how long it will take them to break the ground.”

As for other buildings in the area, Overton said North Quad is the only one that was evacuated.

“Ann Arbor Fire Department is on scene, and nothing else has been evacuated at this time other than North Quad,” Overton said.
