Jake Rudock’s rapid ascent to the NFL is complete.

The Detroit Lions selected Rudock with the 191st overall pick in the NFL Draft on Saturday, making him the third Michigan player picked.

After losing the starting quarterback job following his redshirt junior season at Iowa, Rudock came to Michigan last spring as a graduate transfer. In only one year as a Wolverine, the fifth-year senior threw for 3,017 yards — second in school history for a single season — 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

He wasn’t considered an NFL prospect when he arrived last spring, but he beat out junior Shane Morris for the starting quarterback job and started all 13 games. After a slow start to the season, Rudock came on in the second half, most notably with a 440-yard, six-touchdown outburst at Indiana on Nov. 14.

Rudock now joins fellow Wolverine Graham Glasgow, a center whom the Lions picked in the third round Friday, in Detroit.
