Four-star linebacker Branden Jennings announced Friday that he had committed to Michigan. The 2021 prospect is ranked the No. 82 overall prospect by 247Sports and No. 52 by Rivals.

Formerly committed to Florida State, where his father played, Jennings decommitted in October. According to Rivals, he plans to enroll early this winter.

“The defense is very versatile and I feel I can excel in it,” Jennings told 247Sports. “I can play all around the box … and bring a lot to the table.”

The pandemic has somewhat upended recruiting for the 2021 class, with schools having been unable to host prospects since March. However, Jennings got a feel for the school when he took an unofficial visit for last year’s Army game, according to Rivals. He had previously advocated on Twitter for the NCAA to lift the dead period.

Jennings’ commitment means the Wolverines now have the seventh-best 2021 recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports, and the second-best in the Big Ten behind Ohio State. Michigan has 21 total commits, including one five-star, 11 four-stars and nine three-stars. Jennings is the Wolverines’ third outside linebacker in the class, joining four-star Junior Colson and three-star Tyler McLaurin.

On Thursday night, the Wolverines also landed a commitment from Louisiana Tech grad transfer Willie Allen. Formerly a four-star offensive tackle committed to LSU, Allen redshirted the 2016 season, then transferred to a junior college before attending Louisiana Tech. He was an All-Conference USA honorable mention in 2019.

Although Allen is a grad transfer, it is unclear whether he is eligible to suit up for Michigan in 2020. He had previously opted out of the season before entering the transfer portal. Regardless of whether he plays this season, Allen will have one more year of eligibility.
