The nation’s No. 1 running back recruit is headed to Michigan. DePaul Catholic (Wayne, N.J.) running back Kareem Walker committed to the Wolverines early Thursday afternoon at a press conference at his high school.

A four-star running back according to the 247sports.com composite rankings, Walker decommitted from Ohio State in early November, and Michigan immediately became one of the favorites in his recruitment.

Walker said at his press conference that ultimately, his decision came down to the Wolverines and Florida State. Michigan also beat out the Seminoles for a recruit on Wednesday, when Pembroke Pines, Fla., linebacker Devin Bush Jr. announced his pledge to play for the Wolverines.

Walker is the fourth running back committed in Michigan’s 2016 class, joining Pratville, Al.’s Kingston Davis, Indianapolis’s Chris Evans and Winchester, Ind.’s Kiante Enis, and Walker should compete for touches early.

Upon Walker’s commitment, 247sports boosted Michigan’s class ranking to second in the nation, behind only Ohio State. The Wolverines remain in pursuit of another New Jersey star, Paramus Catholic defensive tackle Rashan Gary, the nation’s top overall prospect.
