Wednesday night, four suspects were arrested for committing an aggravated assault at the West Hall Arch at the intersection of South University Avenue and East University Avenue. Three suspects were taken to jail and the fourth was released pending warrant authorization.

The crime took place early Wednesday morning and the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security released information about the suspects, as told by the witnesses Wednesday evening.

Two women approached and physically assaulted a student. A male then confronted a male cyclist who was trying to intervene. A second male knocked the cyclist off his bike; he fell unconscious. One of the women then proceeded to kick the fallen man in the head. The four suspects left toward the Diag.

DPSS reported two of the assailants as white females, 18 to 24 years of age. One was approximately 5’2” with medium build and blond hair. She was barefoot and wearing a black tank top and dark-colored shorts. The second female was taller, with brown hair and long braids. She wore two tank tops, dark-colored shorts and blue Nike shoes.

The police described the other two male suspects; one was a Black man, approximately 6 feet tall and had close-shaven dark hair. He wore a navy blue University tee-shirt, University athletic pants and dark shoes. The second was a Black male who had short black hair and a goatee. He wore a large black tee-shirt and pink athletic shoes.

Images of two suspects can be found on the DPSS website.

In a message to the Daily Thursday, DPSS Spokeswoman Diane Brown said arraignment of two suspects is expected to occur Friday.
