UofMixtape: 'Girls talking about sex'
Whenever we talk female sexuality, we talk exclusively about seduction, about using one’s body as a vehicle for man’s pleasure. Sex is one of the most-mentioned subjects in songwriting, yet the songs are always about a girl inspiring a man’s desire -- never her own.
This collection of songs lyrics may scream pleasure but make no mistake: it’s not meant for slinking around in the bedroom with a lover. It’s pure pop, meant for bopping around your room when you’re getting dressed in the morning. It’s the musical equivalent of checking yourself out naked and dancing in full makeup and lacey underwear with your best friends. Kicking it off with Charli XCX’s bouncy ode to female masturbation (“I don’t need you, my touch is better”) and continuing on through Wynter Gordon’s detailed account of testing out different kinks in danceable “Dirty Talk”, this playlist is intended to make female sexuality feel fun and exciting. It’s not a performance intended for anybody else, but first and foremost associated with exploring your body and loving yourself.
